Letter from Apollo 15 Crew to Kennedy Space Center Team, with Apollo 15 Decal

Letter from Apollo 15 Crew to Kennedy Space Center Team, with Apollo 15 Decal

The letter outlines the unique aspects of Apollo 15, including the use of the Lunar Rover. It goes on to assert the importance of the team at Kennedy Space Centre (KSC) in assuring the readiness of the launch vehicle. It confirms the Apollo 15 crew's confidence in the KSC team. The letter includes an Apollo 15 mission emblem decal intended for the KSC team to display. The letter is signed by each of the Apollo 15 crew, David R. Scott, Alfred M. Worden, JR. and James B. Irwin.

Apollo 15 was the fourth successful Moon landing and the first of the Apollo “J” missions. These later Apollo missions focused on scientific discovery, which was made possible by longer stays and greater mobility across the lunar surface. This was achieved with the help of the Lunar Roving Vehicle, which allowed the astronauts to travel much greater distances. The objectives of Apollo 15 were to explore the Hadley-Apennine region, set up and activate lunar surface scientific experiments, make engineering evaluations of new Apollo equipment, and conduct lunar orbital experiments and photographic tasks. At the time, NASA called it the most successful crewed flight ever achieved.
