Heston Blumenthal Space Food - Sausage Sizzle

Heston Blumenthal Space Food - Sausage Sizzle

This space food was made specially for British astronaut Tim Peake by the celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal. It took two years for Heston to develop a menu fit for an astronaut. Before being approved for flight, space food must meet strict standards. It must provide the astronaut with all the calories and nutrients needed to stay healthy in space and it must also be easy to eat in weightlessness. This means no crumbs or liquids that could escape and damage vital equipment.

Heston took his menu a step further. His food was designed to help lift Tim’s spirits during his six months away from home on the International Space Station. The dishes were inspired by Tim’s personal memories. This dish was inspired by Tim's family camping trips with his wife and children.
