1960 Blue Streak Scale Model
1960 Blue Streak Scale Model
A model of the British rocket Blue Streak, made in 1960 by pattern maker Peter Hiley.Peter worked as a pattern maker for Rolls Royce and British Aerospace, so had excellent model making skills. A pattern maker was a job role that involved making models of the things that were being designed by engineers.
This Blue Streak model is a representation of the British rocket, which would have formed part of the UK's nuclear deterrent. The model was made in 1960, just before the Blue Streak project was cancelled. Blue Streak rockets were subsequently repurposed to form part of a European launcher called Europa. Therefore, Peter's model is an interesting snapshot of what the first variant of Blue Streak rocket would have looked like.
