Orion-1 Satellite 1:2 Scale Model

Orion-1 Satellite 1:2 Scale Model

Orion-1 is a telecommunications satellite, launched in November 1994. It was designed to transmit signals for television and internet across the Atlantic Ocean, serving Europe and parts of Canada, United States, and Mexico. The curvature of the Earth prevents signals for wireless communication reaching the other side of the world. A straight line-of-sight is required. Communication satellites, such as this one, overcome this problem. Signals are sent up into space and are relayed by the satellite back down to another location on the globe.

In 1998 Orion-1 was renamed Telstar 11, when the Orion Network was acquired by Loral Space & Communications and integrated into their fleet.
