British Aerospace INMARSAT Mission Patch

British Aerospace INMARSAT Mission Patch

This British Aerospace Inmarsat mission patch depicts a satellite from the Inmarsat 2 constellation, which was launched between 1990 and 1992. British Aerospace headed an international group which built four of these second-generation satellites.

Inmarsat is a British satellite telecommunications company which provides telephone and data services to users around the world. Inmarsat’s network of geostationary satellites enables organisations to communicate in remote regions, or areas where a reliable terrestrial network is not available.

Inmarsat 2 satellites had an expected lifespan of 10 years, but at the time they were decommissioned, two of the four satellites broke the world record for mission longevity. Inmarsat 2 F1 was operational for 22.5 years, and Inmarsat 2 F2 beat that record by an extra year.
