Skylab 1 Commemorative Mission Patch

Skylab 1 Commemorative Mission Patch

This mission patch was made by A-B Emblem, one of NASA's official mission patch production companies. The patch was designed by artist Kelly Freas, who the Skylab crew of Pete Conrad, Paul Weitz, and Joe Kerwin asked to be part of the project.

The patch depicts Skylab in front of the Earth, which in turn is eclipsing the Sun. Although the first crewed mission to Skylab (America's first space station) was officially designated Skylab 2, as Skylab 1 was the launch of the space station itself, to avoid confusion the crewed missions are often referred to as Skylab 1, 2, and 3.
