Skylab 2 Commemorative Mission Patch

Skylab 2 Commemorative Mission Patch

This Skylab 2 patch was produced by A-B Emblem, based on the official patch design created by McDonnell Douglas Corporation in collaboration with the crew.

The patch is an adaptation of Leonardo Da Vinci's famous sketch, often referred to as the, 'Vitruvian Man'. For the crew this part of the patch represented the medical experiments that they would carryout on the flight. In the background of the patch is a blue Earth and a red Sun. The Sun section shows a solar flare, depicted in orange, which was an actual solar flare that Skylab astronaut Owen Garriott had studied years before.

Skylab 2 was the second crewed mission to America's first space station. Officially, the mission was designated Skylab 3, with Skylab 1 being the uncrewed launch of the space station. To avoid confusion, the crewed Skylab missions are referred to as Skylab 1, 2, and 3.
