Space Shuttle Approach and Landing Tests Patch
Space Shuttle Approach and Landing Tests Patch
This patch was designed for the Space Shuttle Enterprise Approach and Landing Tests, which were carried out in 1977.The patch depicts Enterprise, the first Space Shuttle Orbiter, and the names of the crew that flew its test flights. Enterprise was a test model of the Space Shuttle, designed for atmospheric test flights only - it lacked the necessary equipment for spaceflight. Two pairs of astronauts - Fred Haise and Gordon Fullerton and Joe Engle and Richard Truly - piloted Enterprise, which had been named after the USS Enterprise from Star Trek.
This particular patch was part of a collection of patches acquired by British-born professor of endocrine and metabolic surgery Anthony Goode, during his years working with NASA’s Life Sciences Division.
