STS-51F Mission Patch
STS-51F Mission Patch
This mission patch was designed for the STS-51F Space Shuttle Challenger spaceflight in 1985. The crew worked with designer Skip Bradley to come up with the finished version. The patch depicts the Shuttle orbiting Earth, with the Sun and the constellations Leo and Orion in the background. The two constellations add up to 19 stars, to mark that this was the 19th Space Shuttle mission. The mission was also known as Spacelab 2, as the Shuttle was flying the European reusable laboratory into space for continued testing.
This particular patch was part of a collection of patches acquired by British-born professor of endocrine and metabolic surgery Anthony Goode, during his years working with NASA’s Life Sciences Division.
