STS-51J Mission Patch
STS-51J Mission Patch
This mission patch was designed for the STS-51J Space Shuttle Atlantis spaceflight in 1985. It was the first flight for Atlantis.The patch was designed by the crew and it shows the Space Shuttle Atlantis soaring above the Earth and the Statue of Liberty. Crew members Karol Bobko and Ronald Grabe were both from New York, which influenced the design and the inclusion of the iconic American landmark.
This particular patch was part of a collection of patches acquired by British-born professor of endocrine and metabolic surgery Anthony Goode, during his years working with NASA’s Life Sciences Division.
