STS-61B Mission Patch
This mission patch was designed for the Space Shuttle Atlantis spaceflight STS-61B, by the crew of Brewster Shaw, Bryan O'Connor, Jerry Ross, Mary Cleave, Sherwood Spring, Charles Walker, and Rodolfo Neri Vela.The mission was only the second Space Shuttle flight to launch at night, carrying with it the first Mexican to go into space. Rodolfo Neri Vela's name on the patch is marked with a small Mexican flag to commemorate the event. Above, Atlantis is depicted orbiting Earth with an American flag and a rainbow motif.
This particular patch was part of a collection of patches acquired by British-born professor of endocrine and metabolic surgery Anthony Goode, during his years working with NASA’s Life Sciences Division.
