Wedgwood Apollo 11 Commemorative Plate

Wedgwood Apollo 11 Commemorative Plate

Wedgwood Apollo 11 commemorative plate produced to mark the first landing on the Moon.

Produced from 1969 onwards, this plate is marked as 'Wedgwood Made in England 1971'. On the front face, in white relief, two astronauts carry out lunar activities in front of a Lunar Module and flag.

The plate is an example of Josiah Wedgwood's Jasperware stoneware material. Invented by Wedgwood in the eighteenth century, Jasperware is a type of pottery with an unglazed matte finish, produced in a number of different colours.
