Wiggins Teape Ltd. Lunar Orbit Promotional Pack
The ’Lunar Orbit’ information pack was produced in 1969 by the paper manufacturer Wiggins Teape Ltd. It used the Apollo lunar missions as a theme to showcase their ‘Orbit Board’ range of paper and card products. The pack is kept in its original envelope, which was sent out to prospective customers. Each item in the pack details the paper type and weight to demonstrate the company’s capabilities.The cover of the pack folds out into a cross shape with colour photographs from Apollo 11 on each of the four inside faces. It contains:
• A fold out map of the lunar surface which charts the orbit of Apollo 8
• A fold out of the Saturn V rocket
• A contact sheet of photographs from Apollo 11
• A fold out illustrated map of the Apollo 11 flight plan
• A fact sheet about lunar orbit
• Two pages of transcript from Apollo 8 radio communications
• Biographies of Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins
• A quotation from an English poem on an unmanned landing on the Sea of Tranquillity printed on a square blue card
• A square card with a list of stockists for the Orbit range with details of the available stock sizes and weights
