Emergency Food Rations

Emergency Food Rations

The emergency food rations form part of an extensive survival kit carried by cosmonauts on board Soyuz. In the event of landing off course, cosmonauts are fully equipped to survive for three days, while awaiting a rescue party. The kit is known as HA3, NAZ (Носимый Аварийный Запас, Nosimyi Avariynyi Zapas) which translates as Portable Survival Kit. It is stowed between the cosmonauts’ seats and includes protective clothing, equipment and food rations.

This food package contains prunes with nuts, high melting chocolate, cottage cheese with fruit puree, ‘Russkoye’ cookies, instant coffee, lemonade and sugar.
