Helen Sharman's Business Card

Helen Sharman's Business Card

Helen Sharman took this business card with her to the Mir space station in 1991, as she became Britain's first astronaut.

Helen travelled to Mir during the Project Juno mission, having responded to an advert seeking an astronaut, ‘no experience necessary.' At the time she was working as a specialist in chocolate flavouring at the Mars confectionery company and was selected ahead of 12,000 other candidates. Helen travelled to the Soviet Union's training facility at Star City, where she received training for her mission. She launched into space on 18 May 1991, and this business card was among the items she took with her.

The business card has been stamped with the Mir space station stamp.
