Spaceflown UK London 2012 Olympics Flag
This London 2012 Olympics Flag was flown in space by the crew of STS-132, ahead of the UK Olympics. The British-born American astronaut Piers Sellers organised for the flag to be taken into space in May 2010, as part of the promotion of the London Olympic Games. Piers Sellers along with his fellow crewmates Kenneth Ham, Dominic Antonelli, Garrett Reisman, Michael Good, and Stephen Bowen, all signed the flag.
STS-132 was a Space Shuttle Atlantis flight to the International Space Station (ISS), launched on 14 May 2010. Its primary objective was to deliver the Mini-Research Module 1, which has been used for cargo storage and as a docking port for visiting spacecraft to the ISS. Along with the Olympic Flag, the crew also took a small piece of wood from Sir Isaac Newton's apple tree.
