Oxygen Connection Hose for Orlan DMA EVA Spacesuit
Oxygen Connection Hose for Orlan DMA EVA Spacesuit
This Oxygen Connector Hose was used with the Orlan DMA EVA Spacesuit (serial #3). The spacesuit was one of three used in testing for the spacesuits worn on the Mir space station.Made in 1987 by Zvezda for the Soviet space programme, the Orlan spacesuit was used up until 1989 for thermal vacuum testing by cosmonauts Musa Manarov, Gennady Strekalov, Alexandre Serebrov, Alexandra Balandin, and Jean-Loup Chrétien. The oxygen connector tube was essential for these vacuum tests. In theory, the Orlan DMA EVA spacesuits were to be self-sufficient and would not require an umbilical cord to attach them to the spacecraft. However, the prototype spacesuit that this tube was fitted to was not self-sufficient, requiring oxygen to be provided by this hose to keep the cosmonauts alive.
