Russian Orlan Long Johns

Russian Orlan Long Johns

A pair of Long Johns designed to be worn underneath a spacesuit.

This sleeveless undergarment is designed to be worn underneath the KVO Liquid Cooling Garment, inside an Orlan DMA EVA Spacesuit. Long johns are worn to make suiting up for a spacewalk more comfortable, as the plastic tubing that is inter-woven through the liquid cooling garment could be uncomfortable. Temperature regulation and comfort are important considerations when carrying out spacewalks, as working outside the spacecraft might involve spending more than six hours inside a cramped spacesuit. Comfortable, breathable underwear helps to keep the astronaut working at peak capacity.
