SHL-10 Sokol Spacesuit Communication Headset

SHL-10 Sokol Spacesuit Communication Headset

SHL-10 Spacesuit Communications Headset, worn with the Sokol KV-2 Rescue Spacesuit. Grey leather earpads connect by a nylon mesh skull-cap with a microphone mouthpiece. Similar headsets are used in the Orlan EVA Spacesuit.

Allowing astronauts to communicate with the ground or with their spacecraft whilst on a spacewalk, is important. Overcoming the difficulties of the acoustic surroundings inside a spacecraft, whilst you are inside a spacesuit, has led to the development of skull-cap headsets with inbuilt microphones and speakers. They provide a dedicated system that allows two-way communication with mission control, or with the spacecraft during a spacewalk.
