The National Space Centre’s Education team is hosting a full day of talks and workshops to home educated children.

Our subject for this Home Education Day is: Earth in Space

Suitable for children aged 5-14, sessions will allow children and adults to work together to achieve their own learning goals:

Weather workshop

Through practical lots of hands-on experiments and demonstrations children will explore different weather types, how they are formed. They will also find out how we monitor our weather using satellites to observe our planet.

Operation Earth

This fun and interactive show featuring Earthy and the Dr will explore the issues that face our fragile Earth in climate crisis and what we can do to help.

Planetarium Show

Sit back and relax as we journey through the wonders of the Universe. Your presenter will guide you around our night time sky as you explore stars and planets. Vote for your favourite stops along the way in this exciting, audience-driven journey.

Key Stage 2– SOLD OUT

Satellites

In this interactive workshop, students get the chance to learn, challenge and experiment with something we all take for granted these days, Satellites. They affect our daily lives more than we realise, from communications systems, to weather forecasts and even space exploration. During this investigation of satellites, students will participate in activities which demonstrate how satellites work, what they are used for, and how they stay in orbit.

Terms and Conditions


– Payment must be made at the time of booking. Places cannot be reserved without payment.
– Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times. Adults may be responsible for multiple children, however, they must remain with them throughout the sessions.
– This event is only open to individual home educators, it cannot be booked by schools or groups.
– Only children booked into the activities may attend them. We have a capacity set on each session, which will include booked children and their responsible adult only.
– All tickets are not transferable and non-refundable, except in the event of a cancellation by the National Space Centre.
– The National Space Centre reserves the right to cancel the event should minimum numbers not be achieved. In the unlikely event of this situation, all participants will be notified 7 days prior to the event and full refunds made.
– We request that there is no eating or drinking during the sessions, with the exception of water in a sealed bottle. We have a café on-site that can be used during your free time, or you are most welcome to bring a packed lunch with you.
– Each session will include children of differing ages and abilities. Due to the nature of the sessions, we do not have sufficient resources for children to work individually.
– We ask all participants to treat others with respect and courtesy at all times. Anybody found to be disruptive or unsafe, will be asked to leave. Accompanying adults are reminded that they are responsible for children at ALL times.
– Late arrival may mean you are unable to join any sessions that have already started.
– Home Education Day tickets are not valid for the FREE Annual Pass upgrade.
