Children’s Guide to the Night Sky
If you want to treat a young astronomer, look no further than Children’s Guide to the Night Sky. Written by Tom Kerss in partnership with the National Space Centre, it will take you through all 4 seasons of the night sky and what you can spot. Whether you’re just using your eyes or you’ve got a telescope on hand, this book will teach you everything from the basics of stargazing to how to spot deep sky objects and try your hand at astrophotography. No matter whether you’re buying for someone who’s just getting started or wants to further their understanding, this is a great gift for them.

A Very Curious Christmas
For something a little more festive, A Very Curious Christmas by Maddie Moate explains the science behind snowflakes, fairy lights and holly leaves, as well as discovering Christmas traditions from around the world. We were lucky enough to welcome Maddie to the centre in 2023 to launch the book, to tell us about how astronauts eat Christmas dinner in space, and show off some fun and festive demos. The book also contains plenty of crafts you can make at home.

Hello, is this planet Earth?
Hello, is this Planet Earth by Tim Peake rounds off our list. Full of photographs taken by Tim during his six-month mission aboard the International Space Station, it has been described as “mesmerising,” “inspiring,” and “truly out of this world.” With over 150 photographs of the Earth from space, complete with extra information about the views beneath as well as comments from Tim. A gorgeous book to flip through, this would be perfect to surprise anyone with.
