With the festive season just around the corner, preparations are in full swing at the National Space Centre. If you visit throughout December, you’ll be greeted with twinkling lights at the entrance, tinsel and baubles in the shop and our incredible rocket trees above your head.

However, it’s not all about decorations here. There are plenty of chances to get involved, to make some Christmas memories, or just to have a great day out.

There are several events on offer throughout December, all with a little taste of festive fun to get you and your friends or family excited for the season!

For a special night out, look no further than our Polar Express Festive Screening. We’ve gone all out to make the experience as special as possible, from sending out your own golden ticket invitation to special goody bags prepared for kids. With a First Class ticket, you’ll get a hot chocolate on arrival, and some upgraded goodies, and with the Royal Carriage experience, you’ll get a memento mug to take home and a bumper bag of props and goodies, all themed around the movie.

🌌 Accessible Afternoon

If you fancy getting involved with some festive science during December, we’ve got something for you.

On 08 December, the National Space Centre will be hosting an Accessible Afternoon. Paint your own moon or discover the smells of space in these unique sensory experiences, or just explore the Centre with lighting and sound levels reduced. Sessions will be drop-in, ensuring children can take things at their own pace, doing as much or as little as they would like at whatever pace suits them best.

There will be 3 planetarium shows available, one with BSL narration, one with subtitles, and another which will be a drop-in sensory Tour of the Night Sky with low lighting and sound levels, giving visitors the option to ask questions and get involved or simply sit back and enjoy watching the night sky.

🤶 Small Space Mrs Santa Special

For our littlest astronauts, we will be hosting a special Small Space event on 22 December, with the chance to make your own rocket decoration, learn how the elves can make Christmas magic through science and even settle down for story time with Mrs Claus herself!

In the Sir Patrick Moore Planetarium, there will be a special show designed especially for those under the age of 5, joining Astronaut George on his interplanetary adventure to find the best planet to live on, and hopefully make some alien friends along the way. This is in addition to the Tinytarium, where Sunshine can explain all about day and night.
