View a partial solar eclipse LIVE

Join us on 29th March from 10:00 - 12:00 for a spectacular celestial event as we witness a partial solar eclipse happening in the UK.

Leicester Astronomical Society will be on hand with solar telescopes and live projections, offering a safe and stunning view of the eclipse.

Get hands-on with table top space activities and create your own pinhole projector to safely observe the eclipse.

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to see the Sun and Moon come together in the daytime sky.

Learn more about the science behind this event in our blog: What is a Solar Eclipse?

Partial Solar Eclipse - viewing and activities

  1. Projection

    Live projections

See how a solar eclipse can be safely projected and viewed. Look through a pinhole projector and take home one that you can make for yourself.

  2. Flare

    Table-top activity

Learn about our star and find out about the dynamic and active nature of the Sun in a table top activity with our Space Comms team.

  3. Eclipse

    View the eclipse safely

Look through the solar telescopes setup by Leicester Astronomical Society and join our Space Comms team to safely view the event with eclipse glasses whilst learning why solar eclipses take place.

Please note - this event will be hosted outside in our main car park area, not within in the Centre, so is weather dependant and does not include access to the exhibition, planetarium or galleries.
